Atlas bash to the north-western corner of the 4DG square, 21-24 September

Koos Pauw is organising an atlas expedition to the north-western parts of the four-degrees square from 21-24 September 2012. This is a second bash that is being arranged over this long-weekend; another bash is being planned by Ernst Retief for the Wakkerstroom area (details to follow). This area of the 4DG is where a large number of pentads are needing to get additional cards to get them to dark green (7+ cards). This is indicated by the black circle on the map.

The base for the long weekend will be Boschkop Farm (25?4.58S 27?30.29E) situated on the banks of the Crocodile River about 75 kms from Brits on the R511 - the red arrow indicates the approximate position of the farm. Boschkop is located right at the edge of the expedition area and thus ideally placed to potentially cover a good number of pentads.  The farm is a very attractive birding venue and has been used for a number of years as a centre for Birding Big Day expeditions. Up to 50 species have been recorded by teams as they leave the farm at sunrise. African Finfoot has been recorded on the river. Visit their website at http://www.boschkopfarm.co.za/ to see what is on offer.

Anyone interested in joining Koos and the team is to please contact him directly at kerneels@intekom.co.za or 073 190 3250.

What a great way to spend a long-weekend and contribute to the 747 and Spring2012 challenges!
